Biography

Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves is an artist who works with new technologies, scenography and sculpture to create a contemporary form of kinetic art. Born in Athens in 1979, she studied interactive media and research at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and in 2004 founded the ‘in-visible collective’, a conceptual multi-media studio, In-visible.

Her work has received significant attention from critics:
"A creator of phenomena, Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves is interested in
how light affects our understanding of reality. Based in the realm of
contemporary kinetic art, her works result in a loss of that which is
familiar, which allows the artist to distance herself from questions
of subjectivity and to put perception of reality back into play.
Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves’s installations set the scene with luminous
colors and video-projections on sculptures. Her art is optical, it
creates experiences where the real and the virtual blend together in a
mixed reality."

At Paris’s all-night art happening, Nuit Blanche, in October 2008, she presented Monolith, in which enigmatic sound transports the spectator in a bath of impenetrable light emerging from a weightless monolith in a setting just steps away from the Place Vendôme. Her work can be found in public and private collections.
